How to Bookmark a site in your browser

Bookmarks (called Favorites in Internet Explorer) are links to web pages that make it easier and quicker to get back to your favorite sites. This article guides you step-by-step how to create an Internet Bookmark/Favorite in all major browsers.

Chrome

1. Open the page you want to bookmark.

2. Click the star () on the top-right corner of the browser window. The star will turn blue () when the page is bookmarked.

3. A drop-down menu will appear, where you can change the name of your bookmark, and select where it will appear, like in the Bookmarks Bar or in a specific folder.

You can also click on the settings icon on the top right () and select Bookmarks > Bookmark this page, which will produce the same drop-down menu, as will selecting Ctrl+D on Windows and Command+D on Mac.

4. When you are finished editing, click Done to close the box.

How to find my bookmarks

To find a page that you've bookmarked, just start typing its name in the address bar. As you type, a list of web pages that you've bookmarked, tagged and visited will appear. Bookmarked pages will have a star next to them. Simply click one of the pages and you'll be taken there instantly.

Chrome (Mobile)

1. Navigate to the page you want to bookmark.

2. Tap the Menu button () and then tap ().

3. Edit the bookmark details. You can change the name, address, and choose a folder for the new bookmark. When selecting a folder, you can tap "New folder" to make a new folder in the currently-selected folder.

4. Tap Save when you are satisfied with the bookmark.

How to view and manage my bookmarks

  • Tap the Menu button () and then Bookmarks.
  • Navigate through the folders by tapping them at the top of the screen.
  • Press and hold a bookmark to view its menu. You can open the bookmark, edit it, or delete it.

Firefox

Are you a Firefox user? The process for bookmarking a site is similar to Chrome:

1. Open the page you want to bookmark.

2. Click on the star () in the address bar. The star will turn blue when the page is bookmarked. You can also press Ctrl/Command+D.

3. Click the blue star () to open the Edit This Bookmark dialog box.

4. In the Edit This Bookmark box you can change any of these details:

  • Name: This is the name that Firefox displays for the bookmark in menus.
  • Folder: Choose what folder to store your bookmark in by picking one from the drop-down menu (for example, the Bookmarks Menu or Bookmarks Toolbar).
  • Tags: Add tags to the bookmark. Firefox allows you to tag bookmarks with words or short phrases. You can then find your bookmarks later by using these tags.

5. When you are finished editing, click Done to close the box.

Firefox (Mobile)

1. Open the page you want to bookmark.

2. Tap the Menu button () and then tap the (). If you don't see the (), you may have to pull the page down a little.

3. Open a new tab to view your bookmarks. Swipe left or right until you open the Bookmarks section.

4. Edit a bookmark by pressing and holding it, and then select Edit. This will allow you to change the name, address, and add keywords which can help you find it in a search.

Internet Explorer

1. Open the page you want to bookmark.

2. Click on the star () in the upper-right corner.

3. Click the Add to favorites button. If you don't see the , click Favorites > Add to favorites. You can also press Ctrl+D.

4. Edit the bookmark's details. You can change the title of the bookmark and choose a folder to save it in. Click New folder to make a new folder in the currently-selected folder.

5. Click on the Add button when you are satisfied with the bookmark.

How to view and Organise my bookmarks
You can use the bookmark manager to get them all in order. Click the Favorites menu and select Organize favorites, If you don't see the Favorites menu, press Alt. From here you can:

  • Click and drag bookmarks to move them into different folders. You can also drag folders into other folders.
  • Right-click on a bookmark or folder and select Delete to delete it. All of the bookmarks in a deleted folder will be deleted as well.

Internet Explorer (Mobile)

1. Navigate to the page you want to bookmark.

2. Tap the Favorites button in the address bar. If you don't see the address bar swipe up from the bottom of the screen or tap the bar at the bottom.

3. Tap the Add to favorites button. You can find this in the upper-right corner of the Favorites bar.

4. Edit the details of the bookmark and then tap Add. You can change the bookmark's name, and select a folder to store it in from the drop-down menu.

How to manage your bookmarks
You can view all of your bookmarks in the Favorites bar. Tap and hold the folder name at the top of the bar to select a different folder. From here you can:

  • Press and hold a bookmark or right-click it to open a menu allowing you to delete the bookmark.
  • Select Edit from the menu to rename a bookmark or move it to another folder.

Opera

1. Open the page you want to bookmark.

2. Click the heart icon (❤), located on the right side of the combined address and search bar.

3. If you want to change the image associated with the bookmark entry, click the left and right arrows on the sides of the thumbnail.

4. If you want to sort the bookmark, select a folder or create a new one by clicking the dropdown menu.

Once created, you can find your bookmarks in the manager. To open the manager, select Bookmarks > Show All Bookmarks on from the menu bar on Mac or from the O Menu on Windows or Linux.

Safari

1. Navigate to the page you want to bookmark.

2. Click Bookmarks > Add Bookmark. You can also press Command+D, or click the Share button and choose Add Bookmark.

3. Choose where to store the bookmark from the pop-up menu.

4. Rename the bookmark or use the name provided by Safari.

5. Click the Add button to save the bookmark.

How to view and manage my bookmarks
You can manage and organise your bookmarks by using the bookmark manager. Click Bookmarks > Show Bookmarks, or press Command+Option+Shift to open the bookmark manager. From here you can:

  • Add a new folder by clicking Bookmarks > Add Bookmark Folder, or press Command+Option+N.
  • Move bookmarks by clicking and dragging them. You can select multiple bookmarks by holding Command and clicking each one.
  • Delete bookmarks by right-clicking on them and selecting Delete.

Safari iOS (Mobile)

1. Open the page you want to bookmark.

2. Tap the Share button at the bottom of the screen.

3. Select Add Bookmark from the window that appears.

4. Edit your bookmark's details - You can change the title of the bookmark as well as the exact address it will take you to. You can also tap the Location option to choose where to save your bookmark.

5. Tap Save when you are satisfied with the bookmark.
